The Venice of the Cotswolds. Bourton on the Water is in the county of Gloucestershire. It is situated on the River Windrush and is known for its low bridges. It is probably one of the most famous Cotswold villages.

I always like to visit Bourton out of season. It’s much quieter then and much easier to get good photos. The benches in the above shot are normally full of tourists posing!
Bourton has many tourist attractions, which I can highly recommend. There is not one I haven’t enjoyed. I didn’t do any of them on this trip, but I wouldn’t hesitate to do them again at some point. High on my list is taking my soon to be four year old daughter to the model village and the maze!

This trip though was all about having a walk round and lunch out with my Mum. We stopped to eat at Small Talk tea rooms and very nice it was too. It is a traditional cosy English tea room and if that’s what you are looking for then I recommend. I also really like Bakery on the Water. I normally buy some cakes to takeaway but you can eat in. I highly recommend even if you have to queue as the food is so good. There are so many great places to eat and I’ll add to this blog as I try places. I’m a bit of a foodie as you will soon discover!

If you have not been to Bourton before, there is a big pay and display car park for you to use. There are some spaces on the main road too which are free. However, they have time limits on. I use them on occasion depending on how long I intend to be here. Given I come here a few times a year I don’t spend as long as the average tourist!

Things to see and do in Bourton that I have done and would recommend for all ages:
- Bourton Model Village
- Cotswold Motoring Museum
- Birdland
- The Dragonfly Maze
You can also choose to stay in the village as there are several hotels and B&Bs which make it the perfect spot.

Have you been to Bourton on the Water? And if so what’s your favourite part?
