Bibury. A beautiful village in Gloucestershire set on the River Coln. Bibury is a major tourist destination most famous for its row of 17th century weavers cottages, (photos below) owned by the National Trust. By the way you can rent number 9! Take a look on the National Trust website for more. Fun Fact – This row of cottages also features on the inside cover of British Passports.

You can see why William Morris once described Bibury as ‘the most beautiful village in England’. Do you agree? Castle Combe is also high up on my list. Although, there are so many I can think of that are beautiful (Upper and Lower Slaughter and Bourton on the Water to name a few)

It is such a charming village, but I much prefer to visit it out of season when it is quieter. In summer it is very pretty, with the flowers all in bloom but if you want photos without the people in them then you need to go either very early or later on in the day. I can’t guarantee there won’t be cars on the row though. I have only been once when they weren’t there and that was a couple of years ago now. I always like to go in autumn to see the colours. They look so beautiful on The Swan Hotel pictured at the top and below.

I will dig out my summer photos and do a post for those too as sometimes it’s good see how places look at different times of year. At least I find it interesting anyway. I went here by myself for a walk round before meeting my Mum for lunch in Bourton as featured in my last post.
If you are planning on driving here, there is plenty of parking on the road opposite the cottages or opposite the Trout Farm but you might have to wait for a space if you are going at peak time/season. Have you been here?
