Oh for the great British Staycation! It’s no hardship for me. I love all the different beautiful places we have here in the UK.
Clovelly is a picturesque fishing village in north Devon. We had a week’s holiday in July to Devon and had a day out visiting Clovelly. It’s been on my must see list for a little while now and it did not disappoint. I hope these photos give you a feel for the place.

Clovelly has a steep cobbled main street. The road was made of stones hauled from the beach. No cars are allowed down it (or up). Years ago they used to use donkeys to haul goods up and down the road but now they use sledges.
Clovelly is privately owned and has been since Elizabethan days. You do have to pay to visit this village. However, there is plenty to do here so you can easily fill a day. We had a look around a museum about author Charles Kingsley and visited an old Fisherman’s cottage.
We also had an excellent lunch, (crab sandwich for me, it had to be done when by the sea!) at the 400 year old pub New Inn Hotel which you can see in the photo above. I recommend there too if you are looking for some food. We sat in the beer garden round the back and it was perfect. Very friendly staff and nice food.
We also visited the Clovelly Court Kitchen Gardens which are a short drive away and well worth a visit. Price is included in your ticket to Clovelly.
Entrance price also includes parking for the village and entry into the museums.
